The Latest on ACP Funding:
What Eligible Families Need to Know
We track the status of the Affordable Connectivity Program’s budget and how long the current subsidies are expected to last.
Current Status of the Affordable Connectivity Program (ACP)
The Affordable Connectivity Program officially ended nationwide. The last full $30 discounts were applied in April 2024, and no new enrollments have been accepted since February 2024.
Congress has not passed new funding as of December 2025. Several bills are under discussion, but nothing is confirmed.
Good News: Your Service Is Still Protected
The Lifeline program is permanent and fully funded. Every household that was on ACP has automatically transitioned to Lifeline-only service. You keep:
- Your same phone number
- Your same device
- Your same provider (in most cases)
- Free or deeply discounted service
What Changes After ACP Ends?
| Benefit | Before ACP Ended | After ACP Ended |
|---|---|---|
| Monthly Discount | $30 (ACP) + $9.25 (Lifeline) | $9.25 (Lifeline only) |
| California Residents | Up to $58.50 total | Still $0 in most cases (CA LifeLine adds up to $19.25) |
| Free Device | Yes – one-time from ACP | You keep your device forever |
| Service Continuity | Unlimited plans | Same or similar plan via Lifeline |
California Residents: You’re Still Covered
Thanks to California LifeLine, most former ACP customers in CA continue to pay $0/month because the combined federal + state discount is often enough to cover popular plans.
