Consumer Rights

As a participant in a federal program, you have specific rights protected by the FCC:

  • Portability: You can transfer your benefit to another provider once every 30 days if you are unhappy with the service.
  • Number Porting: You have the right to keep your existing phone number when switching to a free plan.
  • No Termination Fees: You cannot be charged a fee for leaving the program.

Annual Recertification

To keep your service free forever, you must:

  • Use It: Make a call, send a text, or use data at least once every 30 days.
  • Recertify: Once a year, you will receive a notice to verify you still qualify (e.g., still on SNAP). Respond immediately to avoid disconnection.

Service Questions

Is the data truly unlimited?
Most plans offer “Unlimited Data,” which typically includes a high-speed allowance (e.g., 10GB to 25GB) at 4G/5G speeds. Once that allowance is reached, you still have data access, but speeds may be reduced (throttled) for the rest of the month. You are never charged overage fees.
Can I use the phone as a Hotspot?
Yes, most of our partner providers include Mobile Hotspot capability. This allows you to share your phone’s internet connection with a tablet or laptop. Note that hotspot usage draws from your monthly high-speed data allowance.
Do I have to re-apply every month?
No. Once approved, your service renews automatically every month for free. However, you must use the service (make a call, send a text, or use data) at least once every 30 days to keep the line active. You also need to recertify your eligibility once a year.
Can I have this and a home internet discount?
The ACP benefit is limited to one per household. You generally must choose between applying the discount to your home internet (Broadband) OR your mobile service. Many customers choose the mobile option because it often includes a free device.
